Thai Massage

Thai massage leg stretch at home
What is a Thai Massage? This massage technique uses special stretching methods and gentle pressure application to relax the entire body. The patient lies on the floor rather than on a massage table.  Thai massages are also more active and involved than most other forms of massage therapy, as the patient is usually asked to actively participate in the treatment.  The treatment involves muscles being stretched, worked and prodded.

The Thai Massage is very old and respected all over the world. It originated 2,500 to 7,000 years ago in India. It is used in many parts of the world by athletes and others who seek its benefits.

The Thai Massage has an impact on the body’s circulatory system so people with some health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoporosis, and certain heart or neurological conditions should get advice from their primary physician beforehand.

Thai Massage Techniques

A Thai Massage involves not only ordinary massage techniques like the application of firm pressure to different body parts but also stretches.  The patient is asked to lie on the floor where the therapist slowly works the body through stretches of different types.  The therapist may use their legs, knees, hands, and feet to perform this massage where a person is manipulated into different positions that stretch various body parts in good ways.

During the treatment, there should not be any pain or discomfort. If you do feel pain or discomfort, let your masseuse or masseur know right away where the pain or discomfort is coming from. Your therapist can then alter their technique to avoid causing that pain in the future.

When considering getting a Thai Massage, remember to talk to your therapeutist about any health conditions that may be an issue and discuss the option with your primary physician. When getting this type of treatment, the patient should wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.
